Practice FAQs
Whether you’re new to the sport of swimming or need a little refresher, we wanted to provide a list of FAQs since there’s a lot of terminology and tips of the trade we want to share to make this a fun, enjoyable season. For anything not addressed here, please ask your coach.
Do we have to buy a team swimsuit?
No. Any suit will do, except year-round club suits and tech suits are not allowed. Our team colors are black and kelly green.
Do we practice in the rain?
If it is light rain, then we will most likely hold practice. In heavy rain where we can’t see the bottom of the pool, practice will be canceled. A REMIND text will be sent regarding cancelations. On account of thunder, the pool is closed for 30 minutes.
Do we practice if the weather is chilly?
We will make a judgment call based on the weather. If the water temperature falls below 70 degrees, then coaches may have swimmers do land exercises and go over strokes.
What does my child need to bring to practice?
- Swimsuit
- Goggles - We highly suggest a good, well-fitting pair of goggles and an extra pair just in case. My kids’ favorite are the Speedo Vanquisher 2.0.
- Swim caps aren’t necessary, but they do keep swimmers warmer on those chilly days… not to mention, they keep the hair from flopping every where!
- Towel with name
- Water Bottle
What if my child gets out of the pool and doesn’t want to continue practicing?
It’s up to your child if he/she wants to practice. For younger swimmers, coaches will attempt to speak to the swimmer and encourage him/her to rejoin the group for practice, but the coaches’ primary responsibility is to conduct practice and keep their attention on the swimmers in the pool. Your child may remain on the pool deck if his/her presence doesn’t disturb the other swimmers.
Does my child need to attend every practice?
No. Swimming is a sport that requires a lot of specific technique work and a lot of conditioning to improve and excel, so the more your child attends, the more they’ll improve. As the summer swim league is a relatively short season, it is important to make the most of it. That being said, we understand that kids may be involved in a number of other activities and we support them and all of their endeavors.
